When the Gate is Left Open

I expect your first question might be about the name of this site; well like most things you will find on here, there is a story behind it. I am a keen cyclist and near my house there is a road which has become surplus to requirements and is now used by walkers and cyclists to avoid a rather life challenging main carriageway. There seems little justification for a gate across this byway but it is often shut. When starting out on a ride and eager to get on, the gate is a hindrance, when returning, the last thing you want to do is get off your bike to open it. For this reason, I feel a sense of elation if some uninitiated walker or rider has left the gate open and I am free to make unimpeded progress.  Freedom to make unimpeded progress - I'll leave that thought with you!
